Mass in B minor, conducted by Sir John Eliot Gardiner, in photographs
On Sunday, 9 May – three days before the Festival opening – the first concert prelude to the Prague Spring Festival was heard. With his Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists, Sir John Eliot Gardiner performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B minor. For his recording of this piece, Sir John was nominated for a Grammy award. Confirmation of his belonging to the absolute top in the field was provided at yesterday’s concert, which the audience responded to with standing ovations of several minutes. The Festival thus experienced one of its peaks even before actually beginning!
