The world-renowned king of klezmer clarinet, Giora Feidman, known for his work on the soundtrack of Schindler’s List, will appear here in the Czech premiere of a concerto by Peter Breiner. In this work, based on the plan of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, old echoes of the spontaneous music-making of the wandering Jewish musicians of Eastern Europe intermingle with the tango-like accordion of Feidman’s native Argentina and the rhythms of jazz. All of this will be performed by the seventy-four-year-old soloist, whom Leonard Bernstein described as an ‘angel, who has come down to show us how the music of the heavens sounds’.
